The City of Auburn has already moved to UHF Digital radio system in February this year. The rest of the County should follow sometime this year. ONONDAGA COUNTY On 2/2/10 at 4:00 am County of Onondaga turned on their long awaited new 2-way radio system. This system is a very advanced digital trunking format using 15 well placed towers through out the County. The first agency to use the new system was Syracuse Police Department On March 2nd the Onondaga County Sheriffs Department, area State Police and Town Police Departments switched to the new system. On April 20th. Onondaga County fire and ambulance agencies were added to the new radio system. Dispatch for fire and ambulance are being done on analog UHF channels September 2010, Syracuse Fire Department started to use the digital radio system, while being dispatch continued on the old system. December 2010, Many fire department ambulance services are in the process of changing their dispatch channels to the ambulance channel. How does the digital/trunking repeater system work ? When someone transmits using a " digital" radio, it converts their voice to "digital" format, a receiver at the other end detects the signal, converts the digital signal back to voice and the audio is heard. The "trunking" part of the system uses 15 different channels to be shared by all agencies. Each time you transmit, it randomly selects an open available channel. "Repeater" systems electronically repeats the radio's transmission providing longer range. This also usually allows you to receive both sides of the communications very clearly. Since the new system has been activated, users and agencies have been very happy with the results. The performance, clarity, and coverage have met most everyone's needs and expectations. To hear police , fire and ambulance conversations with the 911 center, you need a new digital trunking scanner with P-25 format abilities. The problem is, digital scanners are more expensive than analog scanners and are very complicated to program. Nu-Tronics is the only dealer that offers its customers an all inclusive prices. Our prices include the scanner, warranty, and custom programming of both digital and analog systems. Their is no extra charge for shipping and handling, general programming, formating or analog programming. |
